The Caribbean region is particularly threatened by multiple natural disasters, exacerbated by the impacts of climate change. The repercussions on Caribbean populations and territories are heightened by factors of social, economic, and environmental vulnerability, as well as a risk culture that needs to be strengthened. A good knowledge of risks by Caribbean populations is thus essential.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The \u201cCaribbean Risks\u201d portal is a platform for information, awareness-raising, and networking, dedicated to the understanding and prevention of natural risks throughout the Caribbean. This portal aims to provide centralized and easy access to reliable, sourced, and organized information on natural risks and protection measures, disseminated across different websites. Available in French, English, and Spanish, the portal is regularly updated with new resources.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The centralization of all existing information on hazards and the effects of climate change facing Caribbean territories is essential so that populations acquire better knowledge of risks and adopt the necessary individual and family protection measures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this perspective, the French Red Cross, through the <\/span>Regional Intervention Platform for the Americas and Caribbean (PIRAC) to the French Cross<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the <\/span>Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA)<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span> and the<\/span>\u2019Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS)<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/a> have developed this regional information portal on natural disaster risk. This portal was developed within the framework of the PIRAC's Ready360 program with financial support from INTERREG Caribbean.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

INTERREG Caribbean is a <\/span>European Territorial Cooperation<\/span> that aims to strengthen ties between European overseas territories and their Caribbean neighbors. It supports collaborative projects in the fields of environment, sustainable development, risk management, innovation, and health, in a logic of cross-border cooperation and regional solidarity.<\/span><\/p>\n

By funding this portal project, INTERREG Caribbean and the European Union reaffirm their commitment to strengthening the resilience of populations against natural hazards, in a regional context highly exposed to the effects of climate change and natural disasters.<\/span><\/p>\n

Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS)<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The OECS is an international intergovernmental organization with the mission of \"promoting and supporting sustainable development through regional integration, collective action, and development cooperation.\" The gathering of countries sharing geographical proximity and cultural and physical characteristics within an organization allows member states to act together to achieve common objectives. In this framework, OECS members benefit from facilitated mobility for their citizens, a reduction or elimination of customs barriers, a common approach in terms of health, agriculture, economy, or even environmental matters.<\/p>\n

The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency CDEMA<\/a> <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

CDEMA \u2013 Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency \u2013 is an intergovernmental agency responsible for disaster management within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).<\/p>\n

A key player in the disaster risk management strategy in the Caribbean, CDEMA's main missions are the mobilization and coordination of relief, mitigation of consequences, and coordination of the regional response in case of disasters. CDEMA also works on establishing and continuously improving the disaster response capacities of Member States and has an advocacy role in the adoption of policies and legislative frameworks on disaster risk management at national and regional levels.<\/p>\n
