Crist\u00f3bal Col\u00f3n ya lo hab\u00eda descrito durante su primer viaje en 1492.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Estas algas desempe\u00f1an un papel ecol\u00f3gico importante: constituyen un h\u00e1bitat \u00fanico para numerosas especies marinas, contribuyen a la captura de carbono atmosf\u00e9rico y sirven de zona de cr\u00eda para especies como el at\u00fan o la anguila.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sin embargo, <strong>desde 2011, la situaci\u00f3n ha cambiado radicalmente<\/strong>. Cantidades sin precedentes de sargazo llegan masivamente a las costas del Caribe, del golfo de M\u00e9xico y del golfo de Guinea.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=\u00a0\u00bb4.27.6&Prime; _module_preset=\u00a0\u00bbdefault\u00a0\u00bb hover_enabled=\u00a0\u00bb0&Prime; border_width_bottom=\u00a0\u00bb2px\u00a0\u00bb global_colors_info=\u00a0\u00bb{}\u00a0\u00bb sticky_enabled=\u00a0\u00bb0&Prime;]<\/p>\n<h2>\u00bf Por qu\u00e9 hay tanto sargazo desde 2011 ?<\/h2>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=\u00a0\u00bb4.27.6&Prime; _module_preset=\u00a0\u00bbdefault\u00a0\u00bb global_colors_info=\u00a0\u00bb{}\u00a0\u00bb]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Desde 2025, los cient\u00edficos destacan tres factores principales:<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>1. El cambio clim\u00e1tico<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El aumento de la temperatura de la superficie del oc\u00e9ano Atl\u00e1ntico tropical crea condiciones ideales para la proliferaci\u00f3n del sargazo. En noviembre de 2024, M\u00e9t\u00e9o-France Martinique registr\u00f3 una temperatura media de 20,58 \u00b0C, es decir, +0,46 \u00b0C por encima de la media 1991-2020. Estas aguas m\u00e1s c\u00e1lidas favorecen un crecimiento m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido y prolongado de las algas.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>2. El exceso de nutrientes en el oc\u00e9ano<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El sargazo se alimenta de nutrientes presentes en el agua, como el nitr\u00f3geno y el f\u00f3sforo. Estos provienen principalmente de actividades humanas (agricultura, deforestaci\u00f3n, contaminaci\u00f3n) y son transportados hacia el oc\u00e9ano, favoreciendo su crecimiento en zonas donde antes era poco frecuente.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>3. Cambios en las corrientes y los vientos alisios<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os se han observado modificaciones en las corrientes superficiales y en los vientos, que desplazan las masas de algas fuera de su zona natural hacia las regiones tropicales y el Caribe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=\u00a0\u00bb4.27.6&Prime; _module_preset=\u00a0\u00bbdefault\u00a0\u00bb global_colors_info=\u00a0\u00bb{}\u00a0\u00bb][et_pb_column type=\u00a0\u00bb4_4&Prime; _builder_version=\u00a0\u00bb4.27.6&Prime; _module_preset=\u00a0\u00bbdefault\u00a0\u00bb global_colors_info=\u00a0\u00bb{}\u00a0\u00bb][et_pb_text _builder_version=\u00a0\u00bb4.27.6&Prime; _module_preset=\u00a0\u00bbdefault\u00a0\u00bb hover_enabled=\u00a0\u00bb0&Prime; border_width_bottom=\u00a0\u00bb2px\u00a0\u00bb global_colors_info=\u00a0\u00bb{}\u00a0\u00bb sticky_enabled=\u00a0\u00bb0&Prime;]<\/p>\n<h2>Los efectos del sargazo en el Caribe<\/h2>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=\u00a0\u00bb4.27.6&Prime; _module_preset=\u00a0\u00bbdefault\u00a0\u00bb background_color=\u00a0\u00bb#D6D6D6&Prime; border_width_left=\u00a0\u00bb3px\u00a0\u00bb border_color_left=\u00a0\u00bb#8F8F8F\u00a0\u00bb global_colors_info=\u00a0\u00bb{}\u00a0\u00bb]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aunque el sargazo no es t\u00f3xico al contacto, su descomposici\u00f3n en tierra libera gases que representan un riesgo para la salud.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=\u00a0\u00bb4.27.6&Prime; _module_preset=\u00a0\u00bbdefault\u00a0\u00bb global_colors_info=\u00a0\u00bb{}\u00a0\u00bb]<\/p>\n<h4><b>Riesgos para la salud: la ventana de 48 horas<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Entre 24 y 48 horas despu\u00e9s de su llegada a la costa, las algas en descomposici\u00f3n producen una treintena de gases. Dos de ellos son especialmente perjudiciales:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Sulfuro de hidr\u00f3geno (H\u2082S)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: gas incoloro, m\u00e1s pesado que el aire, con olor a huevo podrido. Puede provocar irritaciones, problemas respiratorios, neurol\u00f3gicos y cardiovasculares, e incluso ser mortal a altas concentraciones.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Amoniaco (NH\u2083)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: gas incoloro e hidrosoluble, irritante para las v\u00edas respiratorias, los ojos y las mucosas.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El sargazo tambi\u00e9n act\u00faa como una esponja en el mar, absorbiendo metales pesados como el ars\u00e9nico. Estos se liberan progresivamente durante la descomposici\u00f3n, pudiendo contaminar los suelos y las aguas subterr\u00e1neas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=\u00a0\u00bb4.27.6&Prime; _module_preset=\u00a0\u00bbdefault\u00a0\u00bb background_color=\u00a0\u00bb#D6D6D6&Prime; border_width_left=\u00a0\u00bb3px\u00a0\u00bb border_color_left=\u00a0\u00bb#8F8F8F\u00a0\u00bb global_colors_info=\u00a0\u00bb{}\u00a0\u00bb]<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">En caso de percibir olor a huevo podrido cerca de un \u00e1rea afectada, las autoridades sanitarias recomiendan alejarse y consultar a un m\u00e9dico si aparecen s\u00edntomas (irritaci\u00f3n ocular, dificultad para respirar, dolores de cabeza, v\u00f3mitos).
