Protect from the hurricanes
I protect myself from the hurricanes
Hurricane-resistant building codes increase the resistance of buildings against hurricanes.
Alert level systems may vary from one region to another, so it is important to be familiar with the system used in your area and to know the alert levels so that you can act accordingly.
How to respond to hurricane risk
As soon as a pre-hurricane warning is issued, you should start preparing and stocking up on supplies (prepare your emergency kit).
When the hurricane arrives, stay sheltered at home or in a safe shelter: such as a solid building (gymnasium, school, etc.) chosen by the local authority, so that you can be protected if it is impossible to do so at home, and follow the associated instructions. It's also important to stay informed at all times: having a battery-operated radio at home will keep you informed in the event of a power cut.
Once the hurricane has passed, remain vigilant: dangers persist (flooded ravines, landslides, electrical wires on the ground).
