I protect myself from the hurricanes

Hurricane-resistant building codes increase the resistance of buildings against hurricanes.

Alert level systems may vary from one region to another, so it is important to be familiar with the system used in your area and to know the alert levels so that you can act accordingly.

How to respond to hurricane risk

As soon as a pre-hurricane warning is issued, you should start preparing and stocking up on supplies (prepare your emergency kit).
When the hurricane hits, stay indoors or in a safe shelter, such as a sturdy building (gymnasium, school, etc.) designated by the local authorities, so that you can be protected when it is not possible to stay at home, and follow the instructions provided. It is also important to stay informed: having a battery-powered radio at home will allow you to stay informed in the event of a power outage.

Once the hurricane has passed, remain vigilant: dangers persist (flooded ravines, landslides, electrical wires on the ground).
